Network Extras… what are they and what do they mean

Basically every premium rate number in the UK is subject to a connection charge and / or network extras. Its the same with numbers here or on any other site promoting phone sex / or any other premium rate services.

These extra charges are entirely down to your telephone provider and are nothing to do with the company running the premium rate number. The general rule of thumb is that dialing a premium rate number from your mobile phone will always be more expensive per minute than dialling one from a land line.

Network extras for a land line company generally mean a one off connection charge of anything between 9 and 13 pence.

Mobile phone networks may not charge a connection fee, but do charge more per minute for calling a premium rate number. This depends on the network and the tariff you are on so its best to check with your provider if you are unsure.

Confusing? We know. Its entirely out of our hands, but we are currently lobbying the major phone networks to ether simplify this or at least be able to give customers the information when they ask for it as several UK Phone providers were unable to tell us what their ‘network extras’ charge was when we contacted them.

We will be posting a more detailed explanation of network extras shortly with links figures and diagrams….. well perhaps not the diagrams.
